Introduction to the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series with Becky Zimmerman
Saturday, October 18 at 12:30pm
Becky Zimmerman

The Ashtanga Vinyasa style of yoga is vigorous, vibrant, and deeply rooted in tradition. In this workshop, we’ll practice the challenging introductory Primary Series and learn the theory, history, and alignment behind this comprehensive practice.  We’ll explore the power of the bandhas (energy locks within the body), energizing ujjayi breath, and drishti (visual focal points). We’ll learn the traditional Sanskrit opening and closing chants and their meanings.  We’ll take an in-depth approach to practicing the entire Primary Series: a sequence of chants, breathing, and asana (poses), taught by guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, one of the true living masters of yoga. This is a great opportunity to experience a transformative, dynamic, and spiritual method of practice.

All levels welcome. This workshop is appropriate for everyone from beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Recommended (but not required) reading: Yoga Mala, by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois

Written versions of the chants and a Primary Series “cheat sheet” of the asanas in the sequence will be provided for each participant.

$25, *This workshop has limited capacity. Please register early online or in the studio.
